The pollen is created when young bees land on a flower, where their body hairs attract pollen grains through electrostatic forces. The bees then use the stiff hairs on their legs to groom the pollen into brushes or pockets on their bodies, and carry it back to the hive. Once back at the hive, the pollen is mixed with saliva and nectar, and stored in the honeycomb to ferment and feed the colony. It is created in abundance. Thank you, bees, for sharing your magic with us. SAVE THE BEES!
Bee pollen is considered a superfood by many because of its many nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, and polyphenols. It’s also a great source of antioxidants and digestive enzymes. Some people believe bee pollen has therapeutic properties, such as anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antiviral properties, and that it can help stimulate the immune system.
While Sereni-Tea is primarily a tea shop, we are expanding to carry other wellness products as well, including powders, spices, tinctures and creams to facilitate a healtier way of living. We were bowled over when we found Bee Pollen and wanted to share that with our community.
BUT Bee pollen can cause serious allergic reactions in some people, including itching, redness, hives, swelling, shortness of breath, and anaphylaxis. It’s not safe for children or pregnant or breastfeeding women, and it may interfere with blood-thinning medications. You should check with your doctor before taking bee pollen if you take any medications, to be on the safe side.
Our honey products come from Sister Bee’s farm in Ludington, MI. Local to Western Michigan!
Local bees make local honey, which means the pollen they collect and bring back to the hive is all sourced from local plants. Since many seasonal allergies are caused by these same plants, eating honey that contains that pollen can possibly combat those allergies. The idea behind trace-exposure to allergens in order to desensitize patients to food allergies is one that’s gaining steam, and the method applies here.
In addition to potentially fighting allergies, one of the great benefits of local honey is that it’s unprocessed and pure. The stuff you find in the grocery stores is often filtered, a process that removes the trace amounts of pollen it might contain. The purer the honey, the stronger its medicinal benefits, like potential anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
I hope this was helpful. Let’s Bee Well together!
